This is a chance to visit some of our most historic and lovely churches. Most were built and painted by local Czech and German
Catholic families who arrived in Texas during the 1840s and 1850s. The statuary and altars came from Europe or San Antonio
and are decorated with gold leaf. The tour guide is usually a local priest or pastor from the churches we visit. After visiting two
churches, we will stop for a well-earned rest at the delicious buffet at Oakridge Smokehouse before continuing to the next
two churches. You will learn all about early Texas history on the way to and from Schulenburg.
Itinerary
8:00 am - Depart from Huntsville
9:30 am - rest stop for all us elderly folks
10:30 am - pick up docent at the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce
11:00 am - Visit two churches
1:00 pm - stop at Oakridge Smokehouse for a delicious, all-you-can-eat, lunch
2:00 pm - visit two more churches
4:00 pm - depart for Huntsville
6:30 pm - return home
